Hi, I’m Mowa! A 2026 debut romance author with a habit of infusing comedy into books where Black women are loved loudly and passionately. My debut novel, Love From the Cosmos, is about a plus-size woman who tries (and fails) to not fall in love with her dating coach, who happens to be a god.

I am super excited to be a SmoochPit Mentor this year! It’s a community I’ve loved and admired for so long and I am honored to be a part of it. When I’m not writing, I am consuming media like my life depends on it (it does!) and/or talking about said media online. I also love cooking, baking, and spending hours on FaceTime with friends and family.

My top priority is books by BIPOC and other marginalized writers, specifically Black, queer, disabled, and neurodivergent writers.
I love all romance sub-genres/mashups but I am better suited to romcoms, contemporary, contemporary romcoms with a light fantasy bend, paranormal, gothic romance, horroromance, lit fic with strong romantic elements, and any other mashups you can think of! I can handle high heat and darker themes, or the complete opposite. I’m very open to anything. My favorite books are ones that I didn’t anticipate so gimme all you got!

Give me your BIPOC takes on the standard rom-com/romance tropes. I particularly love: fake dating, grumpy x sunshine, academic rivals, marriage of convenience, age gap, etc.

Paranormal romances!! Give me creatures—vamps, angels, demons. Bonus points if it can be comped to Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series.

Horrorromance/Gothic Romance! I am a huge fan of Interview With The Vampire and the 2023 movie, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. Love that is so grotesque that readers aren’t sure if they should be rooting for them or scared of them.

Mentoring Style
I strongly believe in collaboration. Most of my feedback will be in the form of questions because I am here to act as a guide. As the author, you have the answers and the final say, so we’ll work together to bring those amazing ideas to light. I am big on brainstorming, so I’m down to work/talk/think through any tough spots.

With communication, I am very flexible. I can do text, zoom, email, discord, carrier pigeon; whatever works best for the both of us. I’d like to be part of my mentee’s support system and help in whatever ways I can :)
