I'm especially looking for BIPOC and/or queer voices in the following genres:

Contemporary/RomComs: If you have a modern-day marriage of convenience, dear god please send it my way! Other tropes and themes I'd love to receive in my inbox include fake dating, dating lessons, high-angst second chance, unlikeable heroines, virgin MCs that don't glorify/uphold purity culture, small town, kink, sports romance, and much more. This subgenre is my bread and butter, and there are so many aspects I love about it, so it's still worth submitting to me if your MS doesn't quite fit what I've described here. I'd only say I'm not a good fit for on-page sexual assault, domestic abuse/violence, and stories that deal heavily with pregnancy (but secret babies post-birth are perfectly fine).

Suspense/Dark: I would love to read an MS on the lighter end of the content warning spectrum here. Dubious consent is about as far down as I'm willing to go, so if your MS is too dark, I may not be the right fit. Think Lights Out, Ashley Winstead's thrillers, Sierra Simone, Katee Robert, etc. Whether you've got mafia members, MCs on the run, political intrigue, stalkers (lite, please!), or some form of criminal enterprise, I'm all about it! But no MCs that are cops/detectives/sheriffs, please.

Fantasy/Paranormal: If you've got a cozy fantasy romance set in modern day, I'm dying to feast my eyes upon it! Think Celestine Martin, Sarah Hawley, or The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, but your MCs don't necessarily need to be witches. I'm also open to fantasy/paranormal on the darker, moodier end of the spectrum as well as long as it's set in modern day. Whether you've got witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, or other spooky entities, I'm all for it!

Not a good fit for YA/New Adult or anything on the sci-fi, high fantasy, historical, or lit-fic spectrum. Though I enjoy reading from those subgenres quite a bit, I don't feel I'd be a good enough mentor for them.

Mentoring Style

I'm a big supporter of the "compliment sandwich" when it comes to feedback. I'll tell you up front what I loved and what's working in your manuscript, and then follow up with what can be improved upon in revision notes. My feedback style involves pointing out aspects in your MS that I feel need more attention or that aren't working in my opinion, and allow you the choice to revise scenes with your own solution or leave it be if there's anything you don't agree with (which is totally okay!).

All feedback is suggestive, even and especially from publishing professionals, and no one knows your book better than you. We can chat about your MS through Zoom, text, or email, whichever you prefer/works best with your schedule.

Applications
from Connections

SmoochPit's standard is that mentors not consider manuscripts from friends, so if I know you in real life or have interacted often with you online, I will not consider your application. However, feel free to apply to other mentors! I'll be rooting for you from the other side (:
